A happy list.

Today, just a little list of 10 things that are making me happy:

1. ACS. (Hi.)
2. The bright pink roses (eight for $3.99!) from Trader Joe's that are happily hanging out in a gallon-sized Ball jar on my coffee table.
3. Coffee. I love you, coffee. Particularly the Coava Kilenso beans I picked up from Perq recently.
4. The memory of the toasted marshmallow milkshake I had this weekend. Oh my God, that was good. A totally-worth-it indulgence and the perfect accompaniment to an awesome burger. (P.S. Here's a marshmallow shake recipe I'm dying to try at home on a special occasion.)
5. The tiny bubbles that flew out of the top of the dish soap bottle when I squeezed it this morning. So cute, and really, is there anything happier than a bubble?
6. The weather report for San Diego next week. You guys: Highs in the low 70s, lows in the 60s. Those are, like, late-fall temperatures to this Floridian. The thought of weather like that makes me so happy I want to cry.
7. New books! Three, to be specific: Two Kate Atkinsons and one called Husband and Wife by Leah Stewart. Books are the best.
8. The crazy amounts of rain we've been getting lately. This doesn't make me happy all the time, I admit, but there are some nights when there's nothing better to do after work than curl up with the kitties, a cup of tea and a book or a movie.
9. My porch garden! The lemons are still growing, and now, thanks to ACS, I have herbs--thyme, oregano, basil and parsley--and tomatoes. Sadly, I've killed all but one of the tomato plants, but the one that's still alive just sprouted a blossom, so, you know, fingers crossed.
10. Getting to see extended family next week in California, especially in such an unfamiliar location. While I've had some mixed feelings about this trip, the excitement about seeing family has definitely not waned. Can't wait to see them.

What's been making you happy lately?

Photo of San Diego via. Looking forward to dipping my toes in the Pacific, too.

  1. We had so much stuff growing in our garden but everything BUT the tomatoes seem to have died. The toms however have taken over everything. fingers crossed there is enough sunshine to help those bad boys ripen!
Sounds like you're doing well though my dear. And that marshmallow shake - erm. Yum!

    1. Yes, cannot wait to try to make my own marshmallow shake--YUM! So jealous of your healthy tomato crop. Gardening is hard--but I will say there is something so satisfying about it, too (and there's a very distinct pride to be taken in not killing a plant ;)). Wishing for sunshine and ripened tomatoes for you! xoxo

  2. Yay!!! Vacation next week!! We are finally breaking through a week long heat wave in Chicago this week and I could not be more happy. It's the worst when it's too hot to even walk to dinner let alone get in outdoor exercise and playtime.

    Looking forward to garden photos!

    1. I TOTALLY understand the whole "it's-too-hot-to-do-anything" thing, so I'm glad you guys are getting a break. Sweating when you're outside for two seconds is not fun. And happy it will be cooler for your birthday, lady! xo

  3. Toasted marshmallow milkshake?! You have blown my mind, and I will be seeking this out.

And I agree with you- books are the best. I picked up a new one this weekend (The Secret Keeper) because I will be finishing Rules of Civility either tonight or tomorrow.

    1. Rachel, this was AMAZING. I was on the fence about ordering it and then my friends convinced me to do it and I'm so happy I did. So good!

      And hooray for new books!

  4. Is one of the Kate Atkinson books "Life After Life?" I've heard it's fantastic, but haven't picked it up yet.

  5. Yay, happy list! I need to start buying myself flowers; every time you mention them or share a pic on Instagram, I get the urge! The farmer's market has so many beautiful options.

Happy lately: spending this past week with my family, a new bright blue purse, an upcoming reunion with an old friend. :-)

    1. Flowers are the best. Sometimes it's hard to justify the extra money, but they're always cheap at Trader Joe's and my Publix always has three-for-$12 bouquets, so I always end up buying them--they make me so happy it's worth it. You should totally buy them!

I love your happy list, too. So glad you're getting to see family and friends, and new purses are always excellent. xoxo

  6. This is so lovely, and so appreciated right now! I think my favorite are the bubbles from the dish soap. That always makes me smile too. =)

And I hear you on the coffee big time! I decided to take a break from it for awhile, but every time I do that, I remember just how much I love it and how it's so not worth it to give it up!

    1. Aw, thank you, Clair. Glad you share the bubble love!

And totally feel the same as you as the coffee--I can leave it for months at a time but I always come right back to it. There's just nothing like a fresh cup in the morning! I bet Boston has great coffee shops, right?
