Yes, we did.
In 2008, I blogged about watching Barack Obama win the presidential election and wrote that one thought ran through my mind: "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite." (It's a quote from the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and it sure felt apt.)
Last night, I felt that same pure, unbridled sense of joy, and that same quote came back to me again. I can't even tell you how proud, relieved and happy I feel this morning. Those tears of joy, they sure are sweet.
We did it.
Now: forward.

love this! and your post prior to it, too. my first time voting was in the 2008 election and i remember my eyes filling up with joyful tears as they announced that barack obama had won when i realized that i had just been a part of history. it felt EXACTLY like that part of perks. felt the same way last night. here's to our president! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelle! Hooray for President Obama. So glad he'll be our president for four more years.
DeleteYay!! It's ridiculous how relieved I felt yesterday, considering I'm not even American, nor do I live in America. But obviously, what happens in America affects us all around the world. Plus, to me, this election represented a win for diversity and human rights over bigotry. I hope we all live up to these ideals!
ReplyDeleteI hope we do, too, Hila, and it's so encouraging to know you feel the same way about President Obama's re-election and that you were so invested in how it all turned out. The right guy absolutely won, and I'm really hopeful about the future. Thanks for this comment! :)
