Frances Ha.

Have you seen the movie Frances Ha? My mom and I saw it over the weekend; it's quirky and funny and romantic and Greta Gerwig—who stars in it and also cowrote it—is totally charming as Frances, a 27-year-old woman living in New York City and trying to figure out her life. The movie is a classic coming-of-age story, shot in black and white, but it manages to feel both timeless and fresh at the same time. I loved it. (If you're in Sarasota, it's currently playing at Burns Court, one of my favorite places in town to see a movie. It was also one of the Sarasota Film Festival's centerpiece films, but I missed it that time around, sadly.)

What movies have you guys seen and loved lately?

  1. YES!!! A and I saw this on Friday (woot woot matinee!) and I could NOT GET OVER IT. In fact, afterwards, I hauled us both to a bar down the street to hash out the film over strong cocktails...for like two hours. Seriously, I enjoyed every second, was never once bored, completely I forgot I was watching a movie, and rooted for Frances the entire way through.

Fun fact, A is friends with a bunch of people in this film and his good friend dated Greta previously! Bunch of film school kids he knows are involved with the production, so it was cool to chat with him about that end of it, too.

    1. SO GOOD, right?! I couldn't wait to post this...er, post...and see what you had to say in response. Greta Gerwig was just perfect in that role; could imagine another actress playing the role of Frances. And I love that you have that cool connection to her! How fun.

P.S. My favorite line in the film was "You will always be messy and you will always look at yourself too much in the mirror." That's basically me in one sentence! Ha! Loved how relatable Frances' character (and Sophie's character, too, to a certain extent--I think we've all been on her side of that friendship at some point) was...

      P.P.S. Feel better, girlfriend. xoxo

  2. I just watched To Rome With Love which features Greta Gerwig. It was a cute movie- a Woody Allen fantasy of sorts. Pretty imaginative, but also a love story about Rome. Some of the comedy reminded me of the few Italian comedies I've seen. Totally worth Netflixing (via disc, not on demand).
