'Round here.
Inspired by Clair's lovely post (do you read her blog? You should) here's a quick list of things that have been going on in my life lately:
Exercising: A lot. I've really gotten back into the swing of things and I must say, it feels great. Recently it's been a combo of kickboxing (so much sweat!) and long beach walks.
Enjoying: Watching my lemon tree grow. If all goes well, I should have actual lemons soon. This is very exciting to me, not in the least because I'm normally a black thumb.
Reading: Sweet Tooth, by Ian McEwan. Not loving, exactly, but enjoying.
Craving: A trip—somewhere, anywhere! Have been feeling a little stir-crazy recently. Thankfully, I've got San Diego in August to look forward to, and I'm hoping there's opportunity for a mini-vacay in July somewhere, too.
Watching: Mad Men, mostly. And I think we're going to start Arrested Development, which I've never seen, this weekend, since ACS randomly has all the seasons on DVD but has never watched them, either. I know next to nothing about the show, but it's good, right?
Eating: This herb-roasted salmon from Ina Garten is delicious and easy (so delicious I accidentally ate half a pound of it the other day, in fact, instead of the quarter-pound I thought I was scarfing down. Oops). Definitely make it. I paired it with a super-simple arugula salad and it was the perfect post-work meal.
Feeling: Happy that summer is (basically) here. More beach walks, barbecues, swimming, sundresses, dips in the ocean and friend time, please.
What's been going on with you lately? How were your long weekends?
Photo: My own, from one of the aforementioned walks on Siesta Key Beach.

What a lovely picture! That is the kind of place I want to be.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Siesta Beach really is pretty much perfect. Loved your post today, too!
DeleteLove the yin and yang of your workout plan. That's genius!
ReplyDeleteClair totally made me want to do one of these round-ups as well. She's awesome.
And on the vacation front, it looks like Julie might trip out to Chicago this summer. Alicia and I should be in town. Just sayin...

Um, would LOVE to take a trip to Chicago! I actually have a friend who just moved there, and the bf's BFF lives there, too. May have to start looking for good airfare deals...hm, hm, hm. Would love to meet you girls!
DeleteWe just started watching Arrested Development from the beginning, too! It took me a couple of episodes to start to get into it but we are both enjoying it now :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, good to know! Thank you! I'm excited to watch some episodes. Have you watched Homeland? (Have we talked about this?) If not, you MUST.
DeleteGood to know about 'Sweet Tooth'. I've been glancing at it and wondering whether to pick it up or not.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you get lemons...though if it is a new tree don't be shocked if you don't (even if it flowers). Generally, what I've learned from my reading citrus trees take a year or two before they start producing fruit.
Than you for the tip, my garden-wise friend! :) I actually have tiny lemon-looking...buds? fruits?...on my tree--they pretty much look like baby (green) lemons. Do you think they'll keep growing? There's a bunch of them and I would just love a lemon harvest!
DeleteThey might. Or they might be "baby teeth" if you will. I'm hoping that for your sake they get nice and big and juicy! :-) But...if they don't, at you are prepared. Either way, the fact they are getting little fruits and flowers means the tree is healthy and on the right path for having a good, healthy life. :-)
DeleteOh, thanks so much! Very reassuring all-around.
DeleteI felt exactly the same way about Sweet Tooth. Enjoyed it, didn't love it, wouldn't tell anyone to rush out and buy it. Lemons sound awesome- post a picture if you get yellow fruit!
ReplyDeleteI will! And glad you share my opinion of Sweet Tooth. I'm taking my time reading it, too, so I'm interested to see how I feel when I finish. Atonement is still my favorite McEwan book, for sure.
DeleteNice little shot of the ocean- looks sooo relaxing!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! Was certainly one of those perfect Sarasota nights.
DeleteI would love to see pictures of your lemon tree! What a cool tree to have at home. Also, sounds like life is pretty lovely at the moment. I second Eileen's suggestion- I bet it would be even lovelier with a visit to Chicago! Let's get the whole gang out here. :)

Oh, thanks! I'll share some on Instagram and then definitely write a real post when it starts producing actual lemons. Until then I'm afraid I'm going to jinx myself! ;)
DeleteAnd yes, I would love to visit Chicago...the wheels are turning...
ummm, i'm sorry - you haven't seen arrested development? please don't even make eye contact with me until this is rectified. ;)
ReplyDeleteHa! Well, this weekend should remedy that. I'll report back. :)
DeleteYes, yes! Arrested Development is SO good. I also second the vote to see some pics of your lemon tree...having a lemon or orange or lime tree is a long-term dream of mine!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the loveliest shout out.
