happy friday! i know this post is a little late, but what are you doing this weekend, my dears? i'm going to be doing a little work, spending time with friends, maybe taking a pilates class, possibly hitting the beach and definitely sleeping in. what about you?

this photograph of my dad and me, taken when i was probably around a year old, is one of my all-time favorites--i just love it. today is his 54th birthday, and i am sending him tons of love and wishes for another 54 years. xoxo

happy friday, my loves! what are you doing this weekend? if you're in the u.s., you probably have a three-day weekend, right? holidays don't mean quite as much to me (workwise, at least) anymore now that i'm working from home, but i think i'm going to give myself at least half the day off on monday.

what else are you doing? my college friend k. is coming to sarasota to celebrate her birthday, and i plan on spending saturday and sunday relaxing, cleaning and spending time with friends. if the sun decides to peek its head out from behind all these gray clouds, i'd love to get to the beach, too.

also, it's been raining for four days here. i miss the sun.

peas and love.

it's been awhile since i've cooked something from scratch. i bake a lot, but my standbys for dinner, unless i go out, are usually black beans and rice, pasta or cereal (special k, i love you). still, i love cooking, so when i saw this simple recipe for truffled gnocchi with peas and chanterelles, i knew i'd be making it sometime soon. it's full of all my favorite things (potatoes! truffle anything! peas! chives!)--doesn't it look yummy?

i know it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but i love the simplicity of this j.crew wedding dress. i would get married in it tomorrow, and i think it would be lovely with crimson lips and hair pulled into a low bun with a deep side part and a gardenia.

what are you doing this weekend?

as i type this, i am still shocked! and kind of traumatized over last night's grey's anatomy (the season finale). did you watch? what did you think? my range of emotions pretty much run the gamut--from feeling uncomfortable to swooning over some of the romantic exchanges to crying my eyes out. damn you, shonda rhimes--seriously!

anyway, shock and trauma aside, what are you up to this weekend? i have an event tonight and the rest of the weekend looks pretty open, which is nice considering things have been so insane lately. whatever you're doing, i hope you have a fantastic time doing it. see you on monday, my dears. xoxo

what are you doing this weekend?

first and foremost, happy mother's day to all the mommies out there! i am definitely not the mother of a child, although i do consider myself the mother of a very fluffy white cat, which makes me happy. what are your mother's day plans? i'm going to surprise my mom--she thinks i can't visit on mother's day due to a work commitment, but i'm going to show up unexpectedly on sunday. i think she'll be happy.

and as for the rest of the weekend, what are you doing? hopefully something fun and spring-y. aside from the drive to my parents' house, i'm going to clean my apartment and daydream about my soon-to-be painted chalkboard kitchen and pink bedroom. i'll also be daydreaming about finding a gorgeous moroccan wedding blanket like the one above (i'm obsessed with them)--i may have found a great source, so i'll keep you posted if it works out.

my dears, i have a design question, and i think--no, i know--you're the best people to help me out. you all know about my obsession with chalkboard paint, yes? well, i've been itching to paint a wall, a swatch, an anything in my new apartment with it. and as i was baking chocolate chip cookies tonight, i gazed up at the wall space above my cupboards and thought, "hmm...maybe chalkboard paint could work up there!"

the thing is, i'm worried that paint that dark will close in my already small kitchen. but on the flip side, i get quite a lot of sunshine through the kitchen windows and i'd probably write on the chalkboard paint in bright colors.

here're two (craptastic--sorry!) photos of my kitchen as is--i also plan on replacing the red door handles (they're cheerful, but not for me).

what are you doing this weekend?

i'm so excited because one of my favorite people in the whole wide world, mel (who is also a bride-to-be! yay!), is coming to visit me here in sarasota (and she's bringing her fiance, joe, who is also rather awesome). that means lots of laughter, catching up, time at the beach, good food, cupcakes (!), walking around town and generally having a blast. i can't wait.

what are your plans? can you believe it's already may?!

p.s. don't you love the photo above? it's by alana davis, via mrs. french, and it reminds me so much of spending my summers in pennsylvania, at my grandparents' house, when i was younger--hanging around neighborhood "picnics" with friends, kicky sundresses, bare feet, sitting in the grass waiting for outdoor concerts to start as the sweet smell of summer wafted through the air, that perfect moment between light and dark...ah, nostalgia! xoxo
